Santa Elena Canyon at Sunset
The Santa Elena Canyon at the southern tip of Big Bend National Park rises up to 1,500 feet above the Rio Grande. Hiking trails skitter across the green rolling sections that line the United States side of the canyon walls. The impressive scale is captured with a telephoto lens, the luminance of the setting sun contrasting the two slices of the canyon against one another. The eastern side looms over its counterpart to the west, and the limestone cliff face is washed with grays and rust colors from sediment collected from the time this canyon was covered by the now receded ocean.
